Here are the Dream Cards from last week. I am catching up on posting them here.
I have been enjoying this project immensely. It gives me a place to capture a little bit of art each day. I have to admit that some days, I do not make one, and I must catch up the next day, but that in itself is interesting. I am fascinated by the symbolism that each card reveals, even on cards that don't seem like much while I am working.
I urge you to try your hand at collage journaling. A picture is worth a thousand words.
Here is week 16 of the Dream Card Journal Project.
I have been making a "Dream Card", each day, for 16 weeks. Dream Cards are like waking dreams.
I grab a magazine and randomly cut out images and words. Then I glue them on a 4"x6" card in a pleasing composition. When I'm done, I ponder the meaning of the symbols, and words. I have a dream dictionary that I sometimes consult, but I usually use the card for self reflection.
The project started with the notion that I would make collages of my dreams. It became readily apparent that it would be easier not to have a preconceived idea of what the card should look like. It has turned out that the cards are great indicators of the things I am going through in my life. They are not divining tools, they are merely visual journal entries.
When I have completed the years worth of cards, I am going to make them into a book.
Here is my Dream Card Journal Project, Week 14. I am committed to making a dream card collage every day for a whole year. Each day I grab an old magazine and start clipping out pictures and words at random. I then, glue them on a 4" x 6" piece of cardboard. Once it is glued onto the cardboard, I coat it with ModPodge and let it dry. Once dry, I put on a coat of varnish, to seal and protect it.
Dream cards are like waking dreams. I cut out the images and words as randomly as I can, and when the card is complete, I ponder it as I do my dreams. I have a couple of dream dictionaries, which I consult with on the symbolism of certain images. Sometimes I write something about the card, but usually I just ponder the symbols and their relevance in my life.
I encourage you to give it a try. It's a lot of fun and it doesn't have to take a long time to complete a card. Sometimes I make a card in 10 minutes and sometimes it takes 1/2 hour or more. Grab an old magazine, scissors and glue and begin. It's great to add a little creativity in your life, and this is an easy medium, even if you don't have a lot of experience with art.
